Peter McCaul, 66, Retired Teacher, Obbe, b. Killin, Perthshire
Phew! 28 teachers and just under 1200 ‘Scholars’ to be educated. Although the majority of the educators are from the mainand we are beginning to see the emergence of home-grown teachers and a huge explosion in the number of ‘Pupil Teachers’, although the presence of 32 year-old Murdo Martin performing that role in ‘North Bayhead’ appears to poor ice-cold water on my previous conjecture?
There is still plenty to occupy me (or anyone else who fancies doing some research?!) regarding schooling on Harris 1841-1901 but the past two days labours have hopefully made things a little clearer than my initial piece of the 16th of February had left them!
