Hello Direcleit! Thanks very much for your comment; I’m glad the post had some interest (I presume you aren’t a knitter?). I was interested to read some of the accounts of previous storms that your post links to. The 1874 one is gruesome. It’s awful to think that in 2011 they want to close the Stornoway coastguard station, but when you look back at the dangers of being at sea in former times…!
